Etihad Airways to make concessions in a deal to acquire a Swiss company
ZURICH, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The Swiss airline Darwin Airline on Tuesday that the UAE's Etihad Airways, which is planning to acquire a one-third of the Swiss company agreed not to interfere in the appointment of senior executives to gain approval of the deal.
Said Maurizio Merlo, CEO of Darwin - which was renamed to the Regional Union - it is now expected to get the green light from the Swiss authorities by the end of the month.
The Federal Office for Civil Aviation in Switzerland, warned in August that the planned deal, which buys the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi-based share of 33.3 percent in Darwin did not meet the legal requirements necessary for approval.
Merlo said that the main concern of the office was to control the proposed Etihad Airways to manage the company, but this problem has been resolved.
In the previous proposal sought Etihad Airways to conclude an agreement to monitor the quality and safety standards in addition to Darwin to get the role in the appointment of senior management. Merlo said that the UAE-based company abandoned those demands.
Under Swiss rules, the majority of the shares of Darwin must be owned by a Swiss or citizens of the European Union, who should also enjoy effective control of the company.
